Passo San Marco - Italy
Passo San Marco is one of those old Alpine passes that feels authentic the moment you start climbing. It connects Valtellina with the Bergamo area, and instead of wide, modern sweepers, you get something much more traditional — tight hairpins, narrow sections, and constant elevation change. The road isn’t perfect, and that’s part of its character. Asphalt quality is generally solid but can be uneven in places, which keeps you focused. Many corners are slow, first- or second-gear switchbacks with limited visibility, so positioning and patience matter far more than speed. It’s not a pass where you chase top-end pace — it’s where you work the car through each bend. The climb is steady and technical, and on the way down you’ll definitely feel it in the brakes. Outside peak season traffic is manageable, but the narrow width means every oncoming vehicle requires attention. Passo San Marco is a proper driver’s road — mechanical, demanding, and honest. It rewards smooth inputs, good rhythm, and respect for the mountain.
